Welcome to the Home of Joyful Makes, based on Dartmoor, between Ashburton and Bovey Tracey! In this workshop, I’ll guide you step by step through the process of creating your own still life painting. We’ll be working from a live studio setup featuring flowers, crockery, and a carefully curated selection of interesting objects designed to spark inspiration and creativity.
The workshop is suitable for all abilities, and you’ll receive one-to-one support throughout the session. If you’ve never painted before, there’s no need to worry — this is a relaxed, welcoming space where you can try something new, build confidence, and learn a fresh set of skills at your own pace.
It’s also a lovely opportunity to work alongside a small group of like-minded people in a friendly, supportive environment. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to reconnect with your creativity, you’ll be gently guided throughout the process and encouraged to enjoy the experience as much as the painting itself.

A tale that follows the animals, the farm and the family that reside on a farmstead in the middle of Dartmoor. I hope that old and young hands will hold, read and treasure this book. It was written under the trees of Lurcombe Farm, where walks in the woods and toasted marshmallows by firelight in the summer of 2020 helped us rediscover a simpler way of life. May it be read as you curl up by the fire as a love letter to the countryside. "Do not be afraid of shadows and shade.
