Small businesses are bright, colourful caring people making the world feel less grey. They are creative, tenacious artisans with passion & heart who seek out the light, the bright, the glow around the edges of the mundane. They are the ones who make life a little more joyful.

Be amazing NOT Amazon. Don’t give Jeff your money, he doesn’t need it….spend it with the colourful people, the joy bringers, the ones who graft and craft brighter days for their families by caring & curating handmade heartfelt nuggets of joy that spread a little love.

I won’t be supporting Black Friday. The sheer amount of emails asking me to part with my hard earned cash for a ridiculous foot spa I don’t need is gross. It’s depressing, grey old news. I shall be seeking out the colourful ones & consciously making a choice to shop small.

Every year I make a Christmas Wreath & this year I decided to go big. The willow was harvested here on the farm & then decorated with dried blooms.

The blooms are eclectic as they represent not only what’s been grown here & dried, but what I’ve saved from flowers I’ve received.

There’s a project brewing I can’t wait to share, if you know you know 🤫…but for now…I’m off to find a giants door 😂

Painting your decorations is an utter joy.

With a brew in hand, I often think about the homes my makes are going to & the faces they’ll meet along the way. All packed & waved off as Jane from the post office scans their boxes. The excitement of arriving somewhere new.

Perhaps they’ll meet a rogue cat that’s less excited about their arrival. Perhaps they’ll find adventures in their new home as they navigate passed the man drawer & the large washing pile (anyone?!). Or Perhaps they’ll become a new friend to a little person where they mean the whole world to them.

But maybe they’ll be a gift where their symbol finds a deeper meaning words can’t quite find a place for…and that’s where the magic is….

Either way. I’m mostly painting this week…thank you x

Over a year ago, I stood in a field at a craft eve

Over a year ago, I stood in a field at a craft event and looked upwards as a Lancaster bomber flew overhead as part of a remembrance display.
I still can’t put into words how it made me feel, knowing he was a rear gunner on a Lancaster. I’d never seen one before, but the sound of it went right through me.
Overcome, there were big tears.
Bizarrely, very recently, a Lancaster flew over our house and again, I was reminded of the sound.

He was born 23rd April 1924.
On the 21st December 1942 he enlisted at the combined recruiting centre in London.
On the 1st January 1943 he joined the training wing at Bridlington, Yorkshire.
On the 3rd April 1943 he was at Air Gunners School.
On the 8th July 1943 he was in France, badly hit by flak.

After this, there are too many operations to mention. Too many dates. Too many acts of bravery. Too many heroic missions.
The life expectancy on a Lancaster was two weeks.
He had 95 years.
1924 – 2019.
We will remember them x

Often I like to imagine they’re sweetly sharing a conflab about whether sprouts will make an appearance at the dinner table. But most of the time I imagine they’re having an epic barny over whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not. Either way, I reckon it’s gunna get messy.

There’s a selection of hand-painted baubles in the shop & they make great gift ideas. They arrive in a presentation box wrapped with ribbon & dried blooms. I’m basically Rowan Atkinson in Love Actually resisting the urge to add a massive cinnamon stick 😂

I’ve never really been one for Halloween. There’s enough dark times ‘out there’ at the moment. But I am one for recognising the darker half of the year & understanding that just as animals hibernate to conserve their energy, allowing their bodies and minds to slow down, the hibernal way helps them survive, even in the harshest of winters. Perhaps we need to do that too.

Don’t get me wrong I’m all for embracing a bit of rage, particularly when there’s a stubbed toe involved or a severe lack of listening ears 😂 But today in our house it’s certainly all about embracing our ‘wintering’ & appreciating a slower way. The log stores will be filled ready for winter fires & i’m sure we’ll pickle something 😂 (likely to be a massive inappropriately shaped squash) It’s also a time in small business where I’m planning. Planning for the lighter times, prepping for Spring & being in the moment. There’s no rush.

A little bit different to my usual content (though we know I’m a big fan of anything Circus) but I wanted to share this from @circus_funtasia because it was one of our favourite moments of half term. Magical, entertaining, nail biting and breathtaking all in one go.

Ps – not so thrilled about being dragged up onto stage…I definitely took one for the team! Thanks to friends and family who suddenly looked like melted butter in a hot frying pan in their seats whilst I got picked on!
