She was an astute, witty, joyous woman who not only played the piano beautifully, but also the cello. Her music room stretched out to a garden that never seemed to end. She kept doves and every so often you could hear their coos. Containing 1–13 rising notes, and a sequence repeated 4–5 times per minute for many minutes on end, they were the soundtrack to her garden. It feels like a million years ago now. In time as I learnt to play, I was allowed to play in the garden after my lesson, climb the trees and look at the doves.I feel really connected to my own garden at the moment, more than I ever have and for a number of reasons. It's always a busy time on the farm, but sometimes there are moments when I realise the magic is always in the small things. I cannot tell you how happy I was to bark chip the flower farm paths! It was an eight hour slog of shovelling bark chip into a wheelbarrow, but with the sun on my face, the birds singing and the radio playing something smooth and jazzy I was so happy being outside in my happy place.
