She was an astute, witty, joyous woman who not only played the piano beautifully, but also the cello. Her music room stretched out to a garden that never seemed to end. She kept doves and every so often you could hear their coos. Containing 1–13 rising notes, and a sequence repeated 4–5 times per minute for many minutes on end, they were the soundtrack to her garden. It feels like a million years ago now. In time as I learnt to play, I was allowed to play in the garden after my lesson, climb the trees and look at the doves.I feel really connected to my own garden at the moment, more than I ever have and for a number of reasons. It's always a busy time on the farm, but sometimes there are moments when I realise the magic is always in the small things. I cannot tell you how happy I was to bark chip the flower farm paths! It was an eight hour slog of shovelling bark chip into a wheelbarrow, but with the sun on my face, the birds singing and the radio playing something smooth and jazzy I was so happy being outside in my happy place. I will keep my ears open for sleigh bells and ringing overhead, I will stay awake for you, so you may get some rest.
But before we settle down, I have something to proclaim, in all these years I’ve never, ever, been given a name! Might you look toward my little face and search deep in your heart, choose me a name, I’m sure you’ll make it a work of art. A promise from me, little mouse, as we lay down, warm and cosy, a pledge for tonight and every night, eyes shut, cheeks pink and rosy. Welcome to the Home of Joyful Makes, based on Dartmoor, between Ashburton and Bovey Tracey! This workshop is a bespoke craft workshop and will take place in my Cottage Kitchen on Sunday 7th Dec from 1pm-4pm. The Cottage will be decorated for Christmas and we'll be making three giftable crafts for Christmas, a hand-painted Christmas decoration, a mini version of my Christmas willow tree and a papercraft wreath. Refreshments, cake and Mincepies will be provided!. Important Info: This workshop is suitable for all abilities, but is adults only. We’re located on the edge of Dartmoor, sandwiched between Ashburton and Bovey Tracey. Full directions will be emailed to you. Please allow 3 hours for this workshop.
