The Sistering of Spring.

Spring arrives with petals in her hair. She closes her eyes, just briefly, not in rapture, but because someone is shouting for a missing shoe. The birds compose an anthem overhead, while she Googles “easy dinner ideas”. She tends the living things: packs the lunches, waters the hope and rescues the snail from the pavement. If there is irony, it is gentle like laughing at yourself in the mirror with a petal in your hair and calling it a crown.

Frazzled in the Flowers Print

Frazzled in the Flowers is based on the theory of "Frazzled Englishwoman Interiors". It's basically zero time and an emotional support mug that hasn’t been washed since Tuesday!. It’s Laura Ashley meets “I’ll deal with that later" My examples are also: A “special occasion” candle that has survived four house moves and several emotional breakdowns. The wick is at the end of its wick, in more ways than one. One extremely beautiful teacup you never use, and one chipped mug you would save in a fire. A fruit bowl containing: one lemon, three receipts, and a hair clip. At least one drawer that opens onto pure historical chaos (birthday candles, foreign coins, mystery keys, a single earring). A pile of magazines you are “about to read” that predates at least one Prime Minister. One chair that is legally a Clothes Mountain. So, yes, I'm here for the frazzled and for flowers, so here's a celebration of that. It's an original illustration which has been digitised and is surrounded by a white border. It's always a busy time on the farm, but sometimes there are moments when I realise the magic is always in the small things. I cannot tell you how happy I was to bark chip the flower farm paths! It was an eight hour slog of shovelling bark chip into a wheelbarrow, but with the sun on my face, the birds singing and the radio playing something smooth and jazzy I was so happy being outside in my happy place. Dove & the Bluebells

Thirty years ago I sat in a house with Mrs Reed who would become my piano teacher. She was an astute, witty, joyous woman who not only played the piano beautifully, but also the cello. Her music room stretched out to a garden that never seemed to end. She kept doves and every so often you could hear their coos. Containing 1–13 rising notes, and a sequence repeated 4–5 times per minute for many minutes on end, they were the soundtrack to her garden. It feels like a million years ago now. In time as I learnt to play, I was allowed to play in the garden after my lesson, climb the trees and look at the doves.

I feel really connected to my own garden at the moment, more than I ever have and for a number of reasons. This memory popped into my head and I felt it deserved a little nod.
