In this workshop, I’ll guide you step by step through the process of creating your own still life painting. We’ll be working from a live studio setup featuring flowers, crockery, and a carefully curated selection of interesting objects designed to spark inspiration and creativity.

The workshop is suitable for all abilities, and you’ll receive one-to-one support throughout the session. If you’ve never painted before, there’s no need to worry — this is a relaxed, welcoming space where you can try something new, build confidence, and learn a fresh set of skills at your own pace.

It’s also a lovely opportunity to work alongside a small group of like-minded people in a friendly, supportive environment. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to reconnect with your creativity, you’ll be gently guided throughout the process and encouraged to enjoy the experience as much as the painting itself.

    What You’ll Learn

    1. Blocking-In Shapes and Composition
Start by loosely painting the basic shapes of your still life. Learn how to establish strong composition, balance, and placement before adding detail.
    2. Layering and Building Form
Explore how to build depth using thin and thick layers of acrylic paint. You’ll learn how to gradually develop structure and volume in your objects.
    3. Colour Mixing and Harmony
Focus on creating harmony, contrast, and mood within your painting.
    4. Light, Shadow, and Contrast
Learn how to observe and paint highlights, mid-tones, and shadows to create a strong sense of realism and three-dimensional form.
    5. Brushwork and Texture Techniques
Experiment with different brush techniques to represent a variety of surfaces.
