Sunshine & stripes. Well that was a night. Eurovision chez farm was a vibe! I fashioned an outfit from bin liners and socks, which soon had to be swapped for the stripey pjs because the bin liner stuck to places I didn’t want it to 😂 Eurovision, what can I say?! It was a journey…we ate way too many Pringles, cobbled together mojitos from the mint we found growing jn the new chicken coop & had the latest night I’ve had in a long time. Now it’s time to recover…I’m going for an espresso macchiato….Happy Sunday x

Right, we’ve got the snacks in, the scoreboards are in the making & the plan to cobble an outfit together purely from household items is on standby. I’m thinking a bin liner and the cord from a dressing gown.

Whether you’re a fan or not, Eurovision is my happy place, where fun, laughter & the over egged phrase “what was that all about?!” rings throughout the house. It’s our night to be silly & to soak up all the good things that are celebrated when good people come together.

My favourites? Denmark is an absolute banger, it gives dancy euphoria vibes. Sweden opens the show with a giant sausage & has the catchiest chorus. Armenia wins the award for running a wide leg leather trouser on a treadmill, whilst Estonia’s Tommy Cash has managed to be an ear worm that refuses to give up. It literally won’t get out of my head ☕️

May your weekend be full of sunshine & silliness. I’m off to get the bin liner….

Oh my goodness the week is flying by and it’s be

Oh my goodness the week is flying by and it’s been a real mixed bag here. Part of it has been life stuff like taking the car to the garage, organising what child finishes at what time and trying to get a huge amount of work admin done.

Operation “coop construction” is still on-going as the new chickens arrive tomorrow and the coop still isn’t finished. It means two grown adults are spending their evening constructing what can only be called a “recreational prison yard” for Dolly PartHEN, LAYdy Marmalade, Tyrannosaurus PECKS, Jenny from the FLOCK, EGGwina, CHICKI Minaj, Meryl CHEEP, Princess LAYa and HEN Solo. So think of us tonight, scratching around a coop looking like extras from The Shawshank Redemption! 😂😂😂

H e l l o. How are we? Hope the week is feeling like a gorgeous glissade down a waterslide in the Bahamas with a golden tan and a Margarita. No?! Me neither! Mine’s a Yorkshire tea & a touch of sunburn/dirt from chicken coop building in the ☀️(new chickens arrive on Friday…)

As I mentioned in a previous post, I wanted to share some design work here & today’s design board is the Artisan Cabin.

This was the design board I originally came up with for The Book Nook, an artisan cabin we built using sustainable resources. It was important that the design led from existing materials and that these were pulled together using the iconic Penguin book orange.

The overall feel is rustic, warm, quirky and well loved x

I like big hoops and I cannot lie. Well that weekend was a mixed bag of laundry, hen house building and a light peppering of “where are my keys?!”. How was yours? I cannot believe I’m saying this, but this week I’m photographing my work for Christmas, or as I now call it “MAYMAS”. This might paint me as a massive keeno, but really it’s for my own sanity. It takes a huge amount of time to photograph each piece and it’s always on the to do list before the kids break up for half term. So, think of me, covered in baubles and Buble! Meanwhile, whenever there’s a break from the “festivities” I’m sowing alllllll the seeds ready for flower farm blooms. I’m ready to get stuck in & roll my sleeves up. I’ve just started my Sunday by dropping a bag of peas all over the floor & knocking a cup of tea off the bedside table 😂 Meanwhile, I can’t feel my right shoulder due to a mammoth week of dahlia planting in very hard soil & the construction of a new hen house. What a find. A few years ago a friend of ours foun

What a find. A few years ago a friend of ours found this sign in an Exeter cattle market. It’s an 1856 auction sign for a farm which was selling stock, this included a range of items, from a guernsey cow, ducks, geese, wheelbarrows, scales, weights, cheese presses, milking pails, through to household items. The household items were equally as varied, a servants bedstead, candlesticks and even a good setter dog! Remarkably this 1856 sign is our beloved farm and it explains a lot as to why we’re still uncovering treasures to this day. I wonder whether the cheese presses sold?! ….homage to the fromage 🧀

For nearly two decades, we’ve been restoring our Dartmoor Farm. This has involved the restoration of buildings, our family home, studio & the recent addition of a handmade cabin. It’s fair to say we haven’t stopped working. It’s been an every day “pull your sleeves up & tackle the mammoth to do list”. It’s also been part of a lifelong mission to do good things with the land, using regenerative agriculture & giving our family other diversifying options outside of traditional farming. It really is a labour of love & we’re tired 😂

I thought that I’d begin to add my interiors work here as I’ve joined up the things I do. It seeks to champion the colourful power of thrifted, pre-loved and stories of old and new. I believe that playful design can instil a sense of fun and memory, but this doesn’t have to be defined by buying new.

I believe in “make, mend, do”, where restoration and recycling contribute to sustainably conscious design.

I believe in natural ‘heirlooms’ and finds which celebrate the history of the land and its people. It’s my purpose to bridge these stories in design. That is why you’ll always see a connection to family, flowers, nature and heritage. I love working with the land, integrating what we grow outside with how we restore and bring colour inside.

Colour pop. I’ve woken up to a very ‘grey around the edges’ morning. If it was a sound it would be “meh”….i guess I got used to the sunshine and now it’s not here, it’s like a power cut when you’re desperate to turn the light on but nothing happens when you flick the switch.

We had the busiest weekend shared with teenage girls, friends, boys playing archery & copious amounts of potatoes. It was a weekend I wish I could bottle & open again. Plus no archery induced accidents which is always a bonus 😂

Big Carl fell over a few weeks ago. The wind had picked up & he looked as if he’d had a big night out with girls. I think based on his landing, the night probably involved tequila slammers, a rogue Celine Dion on the karaoke and a couple of scotch eggs from the garage on his way home.

It made me realise that he’s patiently and steadfastly stood as a guardian over our plot in all weathers including snow storms and all of the 2024 rain. He has stood there for years and shall continue to do so, given some new willow in the next harvest. But for now here’s big Carl being made….i’ll put the coffee on Carl….

Mixing pattern and print since 2024. Here’s some facts about The Book Nook bedroom…

1. Did you know the bespoke authors headboard was salvaged from a piece of wood we found next to our chicken coop?! We used brass inlays discovered in a barn to house printed names. These include Shakespeare, Lewis Carroll and Virginia Woolf.

2. Did you know the wallpaper was made from wrapping paper and then sealed? Two sheets were even tea stained and then ironed to give a vintage feel.

3. All of the picture frames were second hand and the artwork came from preloved greetings cards. I also found some fabulous vintage lithographs from @theoldpotatostore

4. Lady Chatterley’s Lover adorns the ceiling where a second-hand copy was used to decorate the eaves. It was a painstaking process! My shoulders haven’t been the same since!

5. Our daughter’s old cot bed frame was used to create the partitions between the bedroom and the living space. It was cut and fitted between the main wall and a beam that came from our old kitchen.

6. The giant Penguin book walls were individually decoupaged with each letter and detail cut by hand. Nail scissors were a surprisingly useful tool.

7. Where’s Wally hides somewhere in the bedroom as a playful touch.

8. The two single bedheads came from a house sale and were restored to feel like they came straight out of Peter Pan.

9. The bedroom windows came from our old conservatory.

10. The bedside tables are wine boxes (we had a terrible time consuming the contents for crafts sake!)

11. The flooring is bright green to feel like you’re lying in the grass.

12. The names of famous publishing houses appear on the wall and were printed on recycled papers.

That time we did the living room….

We ripped out the old mantlepiece and completely redecorated… Which was fun. The leak in the ceiling was a real highlight.

Anyway, it began by taking out the old mantle and making a new chunky one. I up-cycled our old mirror using leftover paints. All the florals have been grown here & whilst Spring has arrived, we’re still fireside in the evenings…

Walls were painted in Masquerade (Matt) by @littlegreenepaintcompany This isn’t an ad, but a highlight for its brilliance. We have very chunky uneven walls and it went on a dream.

Still Life Workshop! Limited places! Next Sunday 6th April 1pm-4pm.

Using acrylics and oil pastels, you’ll learn the principles of colour, shape, texture and tone and be introduced to the rule of thirds to enable your composition. This class is suitable for all abilities. So if you haven’t painted before, please don’t worry!

When you arrive, you’ll be introduced to a set still life which includes crockery, flowers, food, natural materials, fabrics and oodles of inspiration!.

When I’m having a bad day and my back plays up & I find myself getting narky because I have to go at a slower pace & have a relationship with a tens machine…I have to remind myself that I hand cut & individually decoupaged four ceilings & several walls 😂 Granted this was a year ago and todays pain is likely from taking a plate out of the dishwasher at the wrong angle, but you get the gist 😂 Today, I give myself full permission to make groaning noises when I stand up from the sofa…. 😂 Happy gin day (otherwise known as Friday)

Officially Spring today! A little peek into the studio with last year’s harvests. I can’t wait for the blooms of 2025! Dried and stored here in the studio, a pully system gets them into the eaves (which is helpful because I’m 5 ft 5 😂)

I finally got organised (after a lot of faffing!) with my website where you’ll see Art, Flowers & Interiors sitting on the same platform together. Part of linking and joining up the dots.
